What to Expect at Your Tampa Newborn Photography Session

Tampa newborn photography - baby in dusty rose wrap bowl pose

Bringing home a new baby is one of the most profound experiences of your life, and those first days pass faster than anyone warns you. A newborn session is your chance to pause time, even just for a few hours, and hold onto this exact moment forever. If you have never done a newborn session before, here is exactly what to expect when you book with me in Tampa.

When to Schedule

Newborn sessions are best within the first 5 to 14 days after birth. During this window babies sleep deeply, curl naturally into those beautiful posed positions, and still have that brand new softness that makes newborn images so magical. I recommend booking your session during your second trimester so we have a confirmed date ready the moment baby arrives. We can always adjust once you know your delivery date.

How Long Does the Session Take

Newborn sessions are unhurried by design. We typically allow 2 to 3 hours, though some sessions run a little shorter or longer depending on how baby is feeling. Feeding breaks, outfit changes, and settling time are all built in. There is no rush. Your baby sets the pace and I follow their lead.

What We Provide

Everything is provided at my Tampa studio. Wraps, hats, headbands, baskets, bowls, blankets, and all props are included. I have a wide range of colors and styles to suit any aesthetic from neutral and minimalist to soft and romantic. You are welcome to bring any special items that are meaningful to your family, a quilt passed down, a tiny outfit that has sentimental value, or a meaningful prop.

What to Bring and Wear

For parents and siblings, I recommend soft neutrals and earth tones. Cream, white, tan, olive, and dusty rose all photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your baby. Avoid large logos or very busy patterns. Most parents choose simple and comfortable, you will likely be sitting on the floor, leaning over baby, and just being present in the moment.

Feed your baby right before arriving or plan to feed upon arrival. A full, sleepy baby is every newborn photographer's best friend.

The Studio Environment

My Tampa studio is kept warm, around 80 degrees, to keep baby comfortable during unclothed poses. We use soft, natural-style lighting and a calming atmosphere designed to help baby settle quickly. White noise plays in the background throughout the session.

Siblings and Pets

Siblings are absolutely welcome and add so much heart to a newborn gallery. I recommend having another adult bring them partway through the session so they are not waiting the entire time. We will do a few beautiful sibling shots early on, then the helper can take them for a snack or short walk while we finish up with baby.
